Drowned World

‘Design in the expectation of flooding rather than trying to ignore its possibility or probability is crucial. There is simply no other long term option’.

Drowned World is located in Canvey Island. A new landscape is created through the controlled breaching of the existing sea wall and within it, a case study housing typology proposed, that is designed for an environment that floods frequently. The ground floor of the housing is a sacrificial space that floods whilst on top, continuous terraces are raised above the rising sea level.
